Reasons For Flood
NWFP inhabitant are 1st to face the flood devastation and losses are divested due to lack of early warning system. The various flood classified are as under:-
- Flash Flood due to intense rain fall in the catchment.
- Snow melting flood which have a long duration.
- Mud sliding, the mud slide occur when wetness index increases.
- Settlement, It occur when organic soil with a non cohesive property disturb the eccentric load
Glacier movement, Snow accumulation increase from eccentric load limit to centre of gravity.
- Cloud burst run off from 1 sq mile upto 4 cusecs for design paper in cloud burst
The high velocity and discharge always eroded the bed and banks and damaging life and property of upper riparian of the tributaries difference type of flood phenomena occur like bank erosion, caving action, sorting action sloughing action, sand blowing, sedimentation and quick sand action.
Flood Fighting Arrangement.
Irrigation deptt: has set up a strategy to cope up the high flood expected after long dry spell and high precipitation during the year follow up by heavy snow cover in the mountainous region of NWFP which is coming as below:
- Irrigation department has established emergency cell at Hydrology Irr: Divn: Peshawar Ph: 9212114 which collect information from WADPA/ Irrigation Field Staff through installed Gauge sites Indus at Tarbela, Indus at Chashma, Kabul H/Works, Munda H/Works, Ammandara H/Works, Kurram Garhi H/Works and other field offices and pass on to 11-Army Corps, Police Department, Civil Secretariat, Flood Warning Cell Relief Commissioner.
